Left-Handed Girl by Tsou Shih-ching – 109 mins – Original version in Mandarin, with French and Dutch subtitles
A single mother and her two daughters arrive in Taipei to open a small food stall in the heart of a night market in the Taiwanese capital. Each of them must find a way to adapt to this new life and manage to keep the family together.
This final instalment of our open-air Taiwanese trilogy explores, from a child’s perspective, the social and family norms imposed on girls, highlighting gendered expectations and the way they shape identities from a very young age.
